iPod Touch and internet connections ...

I was wondering if there are other ways to connect the iTouch to the internet. In my particular case, if I'm in a place without WI-FI but I have a smartphone, is there a way to share my connection with the iTouch via bluetooth or wlan? I already set up this configuration on my Mac and it works great. Any suggestion? Thanks
