I just downloaded itunes 9 and 3.1.1 for my second gen ipod touch. Now my podcasts appear to be in random order on the touch. They are in order in itunes. Any idea on how to sort them so they play by date episode?

Ever since I did that, my iTouch keeps reseting the date to January 1, 2000..... I don't know how to permanentally fix this.

My first Gen iPod touch seems to know where I am when I'm using the Maps application even if I'm not connected to any wifi network. This happened to me in San Francisco once but I chalked it up to the prevalence of WiFi network there. But recently I was driving around Oxnard (not a place with great free and open wifi coverage) following directions on the map app I had set up ahead of time, and I found that the blue dot showing my position changed as I was driving around, showing my current location in real time.

How the heck does this happen? The thing doesn't have GPS AFAIK.

Lately after I sync my iPod Touch, and upon attempting to listen to music or watch video, I am greeted with the above message and the aforementioned delay. It seems to take forever, but it is certainly longer than 1 minute. Anyone else have this problem?

iPod Touch not syncing Smart Playlists ...

I sync my iPod Touch first generation, completely up to date with iPod software and iTunes and my Smart Playlists are not synced. My "Most Recently Added" is just random songs, most of which I put on long long ago. This is all the smart playlists. I even look at the playlist on my iPod (in iTunes) while the iPod is connected in iTunes and it has the correct playlist. Any help would be appreciated.

ATV internet radio via Touch ...

Is the newly introduced internet radio facility on the ATV directly accessable from the Touch via 'Remote'?
If I select from the TV on-screen menu of my ATV an internet radio station via the Apple remote, the radio station plays and appears on the TV screen and also on the screen of my Touch and I am able to pause/start it. What I can't seem to find is a way of getting the station(s) on my Touch without first accessing internet radio using the Apple remote and my TV.
As I normally don't have my ATV connected to a TV only to my stereo system for audio I want a method whereby I can just select and listen to internet radio on the ATV from the Touch without going via the TV.
Anyone know if this is possible?

Every time I try to load a video,the loading is very slow. Also, whenever I rewind, The entire movie has to load again. Do I need an update? Or is it normal?

Computer crashed, want to restore apps ...

My computer, which is a Dell Inspiron laptop running Vista, crashed and I had to replace the entire hard drive. I even had to reinstall Itunes. I have some of my music on my Ipod touch, some on the kid's ipod nano and some (mostly holiday music) not on either ipod. I have quite a lot of apps on my ipod touch, and I am unsure how I can get back to synchronizing again without losing my apps and especially without losing the data I have saved (on my ipod touch) for certain apps (grocery lists, etc.) Also, will I lose my calendar data and my contacts? Please please tell me it won't be so. I am not even sure what else I need to worry about losing. I've been going crazy with this whole hard drive thing this week. Thanks for any advice.

I am using the new touch and the actual version of itunes.
syncing outlook calender, notice and contacts is working but when trying to sync the mails the touch is not able to contact the mailserver.
Where can I configure ports etc. ? Maybe our mailserver needs special settings.

I remember in an old version (like 2.0) of my Ipod Touch G2 i could play games with music on, by starting an app and then double-clicking the home button to make the mini-music player pop up and then press play. This does not work after installing 3.01, which really ***** as i used it very much. Is there anything to do about this?

iPod Touch 3g VS iPod Nano 5G - What ...

I've changed my mind a handful of times on which device I want. I do realize that these are two drastically different devices. I'm torn between the 32g Touch and the 16g Nano. Has anybody had any experience with the size (dimensions) of the Touch in relation to exercise/activity? I know the Nano is the ideal size for such uses. I just wish that it had more memory. I love all the features of the Touch, but the size (dimensions) scares me. I do wish that it had a camera and a few other features, but I'll save that for another day. I also read a few reviews of the Touch where people had problems with the stereo plug breaking while exercising/yard work/etc... I want to pull the trigger, but I'm hesitant. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I recently bought the new iPod Touch 8GB, with iPhone OS 3.1, however I cannot access youtube, everytime I Touch the icon on the home screen, it opens, tries to connect and then I get a message saying "Cannot Connect To Youtube". Also when I log onto youtube through Safari I can't play any of the videos, however I can play videos in the video section on the iPod and I can browse videos in the iTunes store, everything seems to be working properly except youtube. Has anyone ever experienced this problem as well, or can anyone help me.

Picked up my beautiful new 32G Touch today. It's buggered. It told me I had to restore it to install an update when I plugged it into Itunes, but it errors during the restore (either error 13 or 14). I have done everything suggested on the help pages, AND Itunes will restore my 3rd Gen Nano. Did I get a faulty Touch? I've reinstalled itunes, pressed all the combinations of buttons, unplugged, replugged, restarted my computer, cussed, tried restoring under a new user on Vista, tried restoring on a laptop, still getting this error.

I was able to sync my Microsoft Exchange Account to the Mail application with no problems. I am not able to sync that same account to my ipod touch. I've reviewed the past post and was not successful.

The new Nanos shoot video. You'd think the Touch would.

I spent maybe 20 minutes reading Apple info pages, an iPod comparison page, and even quickly searched the User Guide, but saw nothing about shooting video anywhere.

Sure, it talked about video, but it wasn't clear to me if that was only for playback.

I guess I am missing it, or else it doesn't do it, which would be strange.

If it does, where is this info on the Apple Web site? That is, links to both video and photo shooting?

Hey, I've recently got my iPod touch from a good friend.
It's the oldest generation one.
She said when she had it, it did not do this.

But for me when I turn it off, it turns back on straight away, therefore when I go to sleep it has a full battery. When I wake up the battery is dead.
I'm definitely turning it off right.

I have a complete series of a TV Show. It has 6 season with about 20 shows per season. When I sync the shows with my IPT the play list is in a strange order. The episode # is sort first then the season number. So all the Episodes 1 of the 6 season are first in my list, not the chronological order of the show. I want it to be season then episode. How do I use the sorting feature to do this?

While there's a lot of new features that are very exciting, iPhones/Touches still lack the ability to hide compilation artists from the artist list view in the music interface. When I sync my itunes to my ipod, several artists are left out, and they do not appear on the list to be manually selected for syncing. Does anyone know why this happens or how to fix it?

Why are my videos playing in a loop? ...

iPod Touch 2G.

Videos were playing once and then, when done, taking me back to the menu/input screen.

Last week something got changed and my videos now play in a loop. As soon as its done, the video begins again and I have to tap "Done" to stop it.

I've looked all over for a setting to change back to "Play once only" but can't find any such setting either on my iMac or on the iPod Touch.

Has anyone else had this experience? How did you fix it?

Probably a daft queestion but here goes:
looking to buy 3 ipod touch for the kids for xmas.
Can I use these 3 ipods ( plus mine) off my lap top storing all music on an external hard drive.
I need to have 4 seperate libraries (we all have very different tastes) and will have to hold each individual downloaded applications on the external harddrive.
is this viable? can it be easily done? will syncing a specific ipod from a particular library be possible (and not too difficult )

any answers would be appreciated.

I just bought a new 32 Ipod Touch yesterday. Everything worked perfect on my home network. Now, however I'm at work (using my workplace's free wifi) and I cannot get access to itunes store or app store. All other functions (safari, youtube, weather etc.) work great, but when I click on app store it says "cannot connect to iTunes store"). I have full signal on my wifi and the internet is working perfect. Any help? Thanks!

I have an ipod touch and lately everything has been going wrong. My wifi has been working fine these last past couple of months and now it doesn't even work. It usually works when I am home or at school or at my sisters home. At school and home the wi-fi servers are not secured but at my sisters home they are. I have reset my network settings a million times and it works for a little while and stops. I have reset all the settings and it doesn't work at all. I have turned my wifi on and off and it doesn't work. I have even plugged it up to the computer and it worked one time and now it doesn't work at all. I don't know what to do. I'm thinking about sending it back because it doesn't work but I don't know because I don't want to lose everything that I purchased or put on here. So what should I do about the internet?

I've recently bought an iPod touch and was wondering if there is any possibility to play OGG-files on my iPod (i haven't tried flac yet)? I now I can convert my OGG-files to aac, but I'm very reluctant to convert my whole collection, as this is a conversion between two lossy formats with different codecs, resulting in an even more degraded quality :/

One last bar on battery... ...

Hello there,

This is very miniscule, but it bugs the crap outta' me! When charging my iPod, there is always this one little bar left to charge on my battery, and it never charges, but when I unplug and plug it back in, it says it's fully charged. I've restored, but it still does it. I know it's nothing super serious, but just wondering if this happens to anybody elses iPod.

I bought an iPod Touch 16GB in the beginning of june. It was a gift, and has not been in use until yesterday. The home button is totally unresponsive. Pushing the home button will not give any respons at all. Whenever I launch an app, I'm stuck there, until I shut the device off or reset it.

We felt this might be a softwareproblem. The software was upgraded to 3.1.2

The iPod is fully charged. I have done a restart and a reset several times. All of the content on the iPod (music was the only thing put into it, no apps) is removed. I have reset all settings and the software is restored several times using the restore button in iTunes.

I can do a "hard reset" (holding down the sleep/wake button and the home button at the same time for 10 sec will give me the expected respons). So it seems the home button hardware is working.

I still believe this is some sort of software error. I have done everything suggested by Apple to sort out the problem, but nada!

This is a brand new iPod, it has never been used and I obviously will take it to the store and I am sure it will be fixed or replaced.

BUT: Does anyone have any suggestions, in case there are something I should have tried out first?

This isn't so much a question, rather than a complaint. It seems like other people have the same issue. I have a Linksys router configured with hidden SSID and encryption. My newly purchased iTouch can't re-connect to it after I cycled the wifi settings (or cycle the power). I have about a dozen other wifi enabled devices, some as old as 5 years, that have no problem reconnecting to the hidden network. I find it unbelieveable that this fancy new OS can't support something as common as hidden SSIDs. Now I have no choice but to broadcast the SSID which is not something that I wanted to do. I hope Apple will fix this eventually.

Hi there. I was wondering how do you get a Windows Live Account working on the Mail App? It's just it isn't one of the choices on the list, and I tried "Other", though I couldn't get that to work either.

I have a iPod Touch 2nd Generation. After upgrading from 2.2 to 3.1, when I tap the video during video playback, the playback control won't show. I have to tap it many many times in order for the playback control to show. Does anyone have the same problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? It is upsetting to pay for an upgrade that would break existing behavior.

Hey guys any help would be appreciated! Today, I was running on treadmill and it was working fine and then all of a sudden couldnt hear anything! I thought maybe headphones were busted, but I tried 2 different ones and it is ipod, it turns on and goes to song, but seems to have no music come out of it. I tried resetting it and turning it off and on with no luck; anybody know the solution? It may have got a little sweat on it, but I have ran with it for a year and never had this problem!

3.1.2 updated now songs and apps don't ...

I have an ipod touch that was given to me for my birthday a couple of years ago, I've never had any real problems with it untill now:

Last night I bought the 3.1.2 update as some of my recently updated apps are unusable without it. I believe this is the first update I have had to pay for and the first that I have had problems with.

Many of my songs no longer play(they just pause when I try to play them) and none of my apps work now(when I tap them the screen comes up but disappears after a few seconds)

I have restarted and restored my ipod but no change.

I really don't know what to do, can anyone help me please?

Lost Passcode ...

My Daughter set a passcode on my ipod touch and she can't remember it at all. When I go into my iTune under preferences mi iPod touch is listed in the devices with the right serial number (So please do go on about the iPod being stolen like I just read on another forum...).

I am locked into a circle with no end. My iPod is set in French. It tells me that is it deactived and that I have to connect to iTune. ( I don't know that the exact wording would be in English.

I connect to iTune ( It is set in English ) and it tell me "iTune could not connect to iPod "touch" because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPod before it can be use with iTunes."

What can I do for re-setting the passcode? My daughter can't remember it at all...

After the update the "top 25 most played" list on the iPod now features songs that I did not even listen to. The recently added list is also not in date order (although it is on iTunes).

Album Cover Art Messed Up ...

Sorry if this has been posted before, I glanced through the topics but didn't see anything that addressed this issue. If I missed it, please just point me in the right direction.

I noticed several days ago that some of my album cover art (that had been perfectly fine up until then) was screwed up. Some of my albums would show the cover art as being a collage of 4 different album covers. They wouldn't even be by the same artist or anything, it was just completely random. I went into my iTunes, and unchecked a few of the albums that were having this problem, synced my ipod to remove the albums, then rechecked them in iTunes and resynced my ipod and the artwork was fine. So, I did that same process with a few more albums, and it worked for them, but I noticed the first group I did was messed up again.

Any ideas as to what's going on, and more importantly, how I can fix it? Thanks in advance!!!

I was shocked when I saw the music library of my iPod Touch, my music files were all erased from the library but the free space is still the same and no videos erased. I am sure that I did not pressed the option to erase anything from the iPod.

Just connect your iPod to your PC and it will update your music library.

Is there a way to control what information about music is downloaded from itunes music library to ipod touch. For example, there is a comments field for each song. Is there a way to see that field or download it in ipod touch.

Whenever I try to save an on-the-go playlist by syncing it with the computer the sync erases all the songs I purchased directly on my ipod touch from the playlist and just leaves the songs i have on the computer. I had a bug crash on my iPod touch that applications were not opening anymore and closing right after I open them. I heard a suggestion of resetting the entire iPod touch causing to erase my data. Alledgetly that was gonna fix the problem of the application not working. Anyways I want to ask every poster a question? If a bought applications from the app store with an iTunes gift card, could I still download again the apps that I spend money on without having to pay for them again?

I just have bought an iPod Touch and I have noticed a strange behaviour in relation to the lock function. Even if the iPod is locked for a while, if a press home or sleep button, the music starts playing.

For example, I'm listening to a song then I put it on pause then whait to lock the iPod (or pressed sleep to lock). If I wait some minutes and the press home or sleep, the music starts again, even if the iPod is locked.

Is this normal? If not, how can I solve this? Because if I press any button while locked he will start playing till the end of the battery.

Does anyone have a problem with the new 64 GB Ipod Touch. I just got it, and it does not connect to my sony bluetooth earphones or car audio system. It just keep saying "Searching". My Ipod classic with a bluetooth adapter connects easily to both. I wanted to know if anyone is having this problem or do i have a defective unit.

2G iPod Touch iHome iP9 3.1.2 = no ...

Back in May, I got the 2G iPod Touch. A couple months ago, I bought two iP9s. Everything was working great up until this weekend.

Now, when I dock the Touch in the iHome, I get no sound through the iHome. It recognizes the device, and charges, but sound just comes out through the speaker on the Touch. I tried my wife's 80g iPod Classic, and it worked fine. I went to an Apple Store, and had the same problem there, but not with a Sony sound dock.

This all happened after I ran the most recent software update (3.1.2) to my Touch. After the update, the iHome worked fine a couple of times, but then stopped and the problems started.

I like the iP9 a lot, and would hate to have to switch to another similar device (not to mention sucking up the cost of both of them).

Anyone had similar problems? Any thoughts?

Im having trouble deciding which Itouch to get??? I almost bought a new 64b 3g today for $370 US, but decided to do a little research instead. A friend of mine has a new 32b(generation unknown) in the box that he'll sell to me for $200 US.(Which I believe is a sweet deal!) what Id like to know are the differences between the two models,(besides memory) if any??? Last night it started going to the search page and repeatedly selecting g

The icons at the base of the screen don't work from the main screen and in some apps, but work fine in others.

I've tried resetting it, restoring it, restoring from back, as a new iPod, setting it up on another computer and restoring from that one, but it keeps coming back the same.

IPOD touch wont connect to my secure ...

I just got a new Ipod touch and have been trying to connect to my home wireless router. I have a Linksys wrt300n and run a WEP 128 bit security on it. All the other devices in my house run of this wirelessly. (Laptop,desktops,gaming system, etc...) When I first connected my other wireless devices I had to enter my WEP key to be able to access the router. Now the problem I am having is that the IPOD touch will pick up my network. it asks me to enter my password and I do this. Then it tells me that the password is wrong. I double check my password buy logging into my routers setup page. I was right. I assume this is because of my WEP security setting but for the life of me I can not find a place to enter the KEY code in. I have been on the phone twice with Apple to no avail. They are trying to tell me that I may have to change what security setting I use. Is this right? Is there another way. As it stands right now, the IPOD touch I bought is just a $200 peice of junk if I can not even connect to my own home network. OH, before any one asks, I did go to a buisness with free wifi and was able to connect right off the bat with that network. So it is something with my secured setup. Any help would be appriciated. I have been looking around for hours for an answer.

Question: MPEG4 won`t upload to Ipod ...

Hi All,

Can you please help me out here! I want to upload some vid`s to my ipod, for somehow it won`t work! I can stand it won`t work, i cant see what i am doing wrong!
Sone time ago i have converted vid`s to .Mp4 with videora, this went well ok. now, after some time i want tdo this again, but i cant transfer the file from Itunes to the Ipod! Please see here more info about the file! I have converted both for 1st and 2nd generation ipod touch, still its not the answer!

Transfer Purchases - 500 of 1500 songs ...

The itouch says there are 1500 songs. I ran the transfer purchases and only about 800 songs transferred. I do not have the option to transfer again. I unplugged and replugged, and received the same message I can only sync and erase the itouch, the transfer option is not available. Any suggestions?? manually picking out the 700 songs that did not transfer is NOT an option.

Slow youtube ...

Hello I have a Ipod touch 2nd gen. I was able to watch video before I upgraded to 3.1.2. Now I can't watch any video on youtube or safari. It takes so long to buffer sometime 5 minute just to watch a 2 minute video. I have restarted and reset and completely restored.No luck. Could it be apps I have bought or is it you just can't watch youtube or video on this thing? Any help would be great.

I have been having a problem connecting to the internet at my parents house. My father got a Netgear WPN824 router. For the first week I could log on and now it shows a strong signal and there is a check mark next to his Network but I can't get on. It is set to DHCP and there is an IP address and subnetMask, but that is all. I am not computer savy so I don't know what the router settings should be. Thanks for any help!

Touch Not Responsive ...

My first iTouch broke while i was jogging with it (isn't that what the iPod is made for though?) It shut off and would not turn on. iTunes wouldn't recognize the iPod being connected. Anyway, they replaced it saying that a wire may have been shook loose. I was running with the second one when similar problems occured. but the iTouch will turn on this time. The left side is nonresponsive (all the applications on the left column will not operate. -Neither will text on the keyboard when typing.) For 2 weeks the wifi wouldnt even show as an option. Now that it has, all my music and photos are gone.
Why won't the left side respond?

I want to be able to fix the problem myelf- nearest Apple Store is 2 hours away, seems to be not worth the drive if it is resolvable.

Touch Frozen during update ...

I recently attempted to update my iPod Touch (to 3.1.2 I think). When it started, it said preparing iPod for update and the iPod showed the apple logo with a blank status bar under it. I went to bed to let it finish. I didn't unplug, tamper, fiddle, or mess with anything while this was going on.

The next morning, the iPod still showed the empty status bar. The computer said that there was an error while updating the iPod.

Now my iPod is stuck in this update status bar screen. I've tried the button combos I could remember: hold the top button for a while; hold the home button for a while; push both (i think that's the screenshot command though). Nothing worked.

All that I can think of doing is waiting for the LCD screen (which won't turn off and constantly displays this status bar) to drain the battery. Unfortunately, this is one of the rare instances where I actually had a full charge on my iPod so I assume it would probably take a long long time to do this.

Instead of just waiting forever, I wanted to see if I could get any help here from someone who has had this problem or knows something that might work.

I'm really starting to get frustrated. I just got my new iPod Touch 2 days ago. I loved it. However, today I tried opening several of my apps but they won't open.

1. I tried connecting the iPod back to iTunes to see if they just didn't synchronize correctly... didn't work.

2. I tried to reset all settings in the settings menu... didn't work.

3. Tried resetting the iPod by holding the sleep and home keys... didn't work.

The last option is to delete all the apps and download them again, which I don't want to do. I feel like of I have to download them again after 2 days, then how many more times will this happen? (Understand what I mean?)

The music and video playback is fine, but if this was all I wanted, I would have saved $150 and bought an iPod Classic.

I'm sure this problem has a reasonable solution that doesn't involve deleting or re-installing anything. I'm just hoping that one of you know what that solution is.

Help! My itunes runs fine until I connect my ipod touch to sync it. It totally locks up until I disconnect my ipod then it works fine. I have the 3.0 upgrade for my ipod touch and upgraded my itunes to the latest update (9.0.1) I've tried restarting both my computer and ipod touch but no luck. I was able to sync my husbands ipod nano with no problem. Anyone else having issues like this?

My wife has a Touch (2G) which she's been using via my Mac's account and iTunes library/account (ie. we only had a single user on the Mac which we both used). Now, with Home Sharing in iTunes 9, we can share the iTunes library on the same machine between two different user accounts (for logging into the Mac). I'd now like to associate her Touch with her iTunes library/account. How do I do this? Is she going to loose everything on her Touch or is there a way to cleanly move the data?

Okay, I have a 2nd generation 8GB touch. It's a great device, and I love it, but I have over 96GB of movies, songs, and much more that I would like to at least partially be able to carry on my iPod. So I did some digging and I've found the manufacturer that supplies Apple's 2nd gen. touch flash drives--Micron Technologies. And I've also found that the model of NAND flash drive used goes all the way up to 128GB. I am wondering if it would be possible for me to purchase this and then locate an expert and then have it installed, and if the Touch would even be able to work with it. Do you guys have any idea on whether or not this is possible? Or any information on how to contact an Apple expert by email? Or any other expert who would have ANY idea about this? Thank you. Cheers. I have a ipod touch 2nd generation. I just bought a jvc dvd receiver for my truck.This dvd player has connections to play my touch through it including video.I can get sound to the screen but no picture. I was suppose to go to video settings on ipod and go to tv output. It says tv output but nothing to change so I can see it on my indash system.I have the 3 way connecting into the video output and the end goes into the headphone part and then the usb goes into the dash part as well. Can't figure out what is wrong? Any suggestions how to get my ipod to put the video onto my trucks monitor

Upgrade from 2.X to 3.X causes internet ...

As many threads have shown, upgrading from 2.X to 3.X causes slower internet connectivity, reduced signal strength, etc.

So to give you some background, I'm a computer technician and was recently in a role that includes diagnosing iPods; I'm not saying I make iPods in my spare time or anything, just that I'm familiar with basic troubleshooting (reset network settings, restore device, etc.). Also, I'm using a 2nd Generation iPod Touch.

To familiarize you with my diagnostic process thus far:
I have utilized my Xbox to connect to Netflix and stream "The Office" in high definition (720p). Timing this, I noted that it takes about 15 seconds to initiate video and about 4 minutes to load the full episode. This test verifies that my router is indeed intact and fully functional.

I then try to stream the same episode of "The Office" from m.nbc.com and it takes 30 seconds for quicktime to even recognize that a video is loading. Then it takes another 30 seconds to load roughly 5 seconds of video. At this point it stalls and I have move the slider to 'remind' the iTouch that it's loading something.

Keep in mind that this is only a portion of the entire episode, as m.nbc.com splits the episode into multiple portions. So the actual video I'm loading is only about 8 minutes long, in standard defintion.

Prior to 3.0, the iPod would have loaded the very same video, fully, in less than 30 seconds. Subsequent iterations of the OS have not resolved this issue. Additionally, streaming video is not the only problem, Safari runs notably slower as well, just not to the extent that streaming video does.

Google "iTouch slow 3.0" and you will find many issues in regards to this. One 'yahoo answers' stated that it was a known problem and that Apple was working on fixing it. Because of that post, I did not pursue this matter any further, but since they have released updates to 3.0 and that post was made over four months ago, I feel the need to bring it up.

My question is this. Since I don't want to downgrade to 2.2, what recourse do I have? If I walk into an Apple store, will they understand that the performance is degraded or will they state it works because it 'gets a connection, even if it does take 10 minutes to load a 2 minute video?'

To further corroborate this, I have done plenty of research and found that users have stated that downgrading has indeed resolved this issue for them. I do not have misconfigurations that need to be resolved in my router. I'm not too far or too close to my router. The difference is like night and day when switching from 2.X to 3.X. It's clear where the problem stems from.

Backlight is gone after Invisible ...

I installed the Invisible Shield on my son's iPod Touch this morning and now the backlight on the screen isn't working. The iPod works but the screen won't light up. If I get enough light to reflect off the screen I can see the icons and use the iPod but I'd really like to get the backlight working again. Anyone ever run into this problem? I'm hoping that it'll dry out overnight but I've never had this problem before with an Invisible Shield installation and I've put the thing on at least ten iPods and Iphones over the years.

Thoughts?

i have an ipod touch 2g but when i try to play music i can hear music through the speakers and also when the earphones are plugged in.
i know this isn't right due to when you plug one thing in it normally stops the other but it seems that this isn't the case when im trying to play music.

Most information I've seen on posts indicate that bluetooth microphones will not work with iPod Touch bluetooth. According to the new iPod Touch manual for 3rd Gen Touch (Late 2009 64GB) bluetooth microphones will work for Voice Control.

Does anyone know what type of bluetooth profile or version is required for this to work? This isn't covered in the manuals and the majority of old posts say that this doesn't work. I want to buy bluetooth headset with microphone, but I don't know what format is required to work with iPod Touch bluetooth. I am interested in using for Skype and music.

In addition, the new manual also states that Bluetooth headsets will allow you to skip tracks in the same way that the included earphones (Late 2009 3rd Gen). According to Apple Support:

iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, and iPod touch (2nd generation) support pause, play, and stop for AVRCP.

They say that AVRCP only supports the basic functions and not the advanced functions which are mentioned in the manual. What format is required for these features to work?

I'm trying to decide if I should buy an Ipod touch or a zune.
I want to be able to listen to audio streamed by the BBC, either live or broadcast previously, for example from http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/.
We have a wireless router and I was hoping that the Itouch would be able to connect to the BBC web site via the router so I could listen directly to the BBC.

Updating to OS 3.1 ...

I would like to update to OS 3.1. I plug in my iPod at work (Windows) and at home (Mac), although all of my media apart from podcasts are synced via my Mac.

However, I do not have the internet at home, and would like to update the OS at work.

ive had my ipod touch 2nd gen for about 6 months now and just yesterday i was going to watch a youtube video on it and i noticed the volume bar wasnt there and when i clicked the volume buttons nothing happened. Playlist order in 3.1 ...

Hi,

iPod touch 2nd gen 8 gig, just upgraded a few days ago to 3.1 and iTunes 9.

After the upgrade, my smart playlists show up on the iPod in a seemingly random order. I'm using smart playlists for audio lectures--I set one up as Album is such-and-such, Play Count is 0, and then I set all those tracks to Remember Playback Position. That way, I can just go into the playlist and start the first track, and I know I'm right where I left off.

But now, the contents of those playlists are just in some random order. Some of my podcasts are also this way--the episodes are just scrambled instead of in the original order.

Everything was fine with the previous iTunes and iPod OS versions.

Anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?

I'm currently looking for a kind of "PDA" device. What I mean by that, is a device that can I can organise my calendar on and carry it around with me, have my address book on there (and therefore all my contacts) and an MP3 player. I was considering an iPhone 3GS, but they're a bit expensive at the moment and the company I work for is getting them next year so I could get one cheap.

I wanted to know if anyone uses an iPod Touch 32GB (latest generation) with iCal, Address Book and Spotify and what they think of it? These are likely to be my main uses.

I seem to notice that when using my Motorola S305 headphones, my iPod Touch 64 its battery seems to go down rather rapidly..much faster than conventional wired phones. I realize you're sending a radio brodcast, so to say, here, but seems like there's a MAJOR difference with the wireless phones. Is this just the way it is with bluetooth devices/iPod usage?

onscreen volume control issue ...

I am having a problem with the on-screen volume controls. Whenever I attempt to adjust the volume through the on-screen volume slider, it slides back to its original position. This occurs when playing songs as well as videos. the volume buttons on the side of the unit still adjust the volume, but the display does not change to indicate the change in volume.

Rebooting the ipod by holding down the home and hold buttons does temporarily alleviate this problem until i put the ipod in sleep mode, but as soon as i use it again the problem is back. There is not a volume limit set on the ipod to prevent volume adjustments.

For the longest time, no one could answer if the Ipod Touch could do Bluetooth Stereo or not, even the Apple Store reps said no but net searches where yes and no. I wanted to get an Ipod touch and thought "well if it doesnt support it no big deal ill just use regular headphones" So I go out buy the Touch. I just so happen to have a set of Stereo Motorola Bluetooth Headphones (s9's). Went into general and then bluetooth, paired them, and POW they DO support bluetooth stereo. I can control volume, play/pause. I just can't forward or back a track. No big! I'm thilled!

I am traveling from the US to Mexico on vacation in a couple of weeks. Pardon my ignorance as this is the first time I've traveled internationally with the ipod touch. Help ! The 'list view' for the ...

The 'list view' seems to be all wonky in Calendar on my iPod touch.

The dates for a given day that's displayed don't make sense:

i.e. Sunday Oct. 27 2030 followed by Saturday July 14 2001 followed by Tuesday Jan. 16 2001 are listed in consecutive order instead of today, tomorrow and next day (with correct dates).

Also, the 'events' given for each day listed don't make sense and are often duplicated.

The 'day' and 'month' views however, seem to be ok and not corrupted. The 'list' field in the month view also seems fine ?

Has anybody experienced this ? Very frustrating, since I like the list view.

I make most of my entries/changes to iCal on our main desktop (iMac 24") then sync. to my iPod. The list view seems ok on the desktop.

Any help greatly appreciated.

ps. not sure if the problem corresponded with an upgrade of the Ipod software to OS 3.1 from 2.x....

I have a first gen 16 Gb iTouch. I was able to use the WiFi connection without problems until recently. Now when I try to connect on some Aps I get the message "No Internet connection. ____ needs to connect to the Internet. Please ensure that Flight Mode is not enabled". I have not activated flight mode and don't know how to do it. When I try to use Safari or update the weather application or use any of the other applications that worked before, I get "update failed". My Wi-Fi connection in the settings shows that I am connected. I have tried to restore and re-set all settings, but the problem persists. Any ideas?

I went to sync music to my ipod last night and I was told there was a firmware update. So I clicked to download it, but when it was updating it said there was an error. Then my ipod was frozen on the connect to iTunes screen, even tho it was connected. I finally got it to connect after restarting my computer, and it told me I had to restore my ipod. So I left it overnight to restore, because there were a lot of files to sync and I had to go to bed. And now I came down this morning and it's constantly stuck on the apple symbol, and I can't turn it off, it just stays like that until it runs out of power.

I have a 16GB iPod Touch, 2nd Generation purchased last January. And everything has been working fine until recently, the volume rocker is breaking down, that is I can adjust the volume up just fine, but I can't adjust it down at all. Since my warranty is still active (it expires in December), will Apple cover this?

I've already tried restoring the firmware to no avail.

Also, since Apple no longer sells the 16GB model, if I send this one in for repair, will I still get a 16GB model back? Or will they send me something else?

hey there. my ipod touch was jail broken before, when the itunes came out with applications i restored my ipod and un-jail broke it i guess. i changed my background using customize and apparently i left the "lockbaground" option on. i no longer have access to customize or any apps like that, from what i know. anyways i recently got a new ipod and just updated it, and the background is exactly the same as it was before and it still wont change. i can set a new background all i want but it doesn't change. someone needs to help pleassseeee. thank you and i appreciate it dearly.

OS 3.1.2 Update didn't fix the ...

I was hoping that the software update would fix the "Updating library, please wait a few minutes" screen that comes up when I try to play a song on my ipod touch after syncing. Is this bizarre "updating library" delay going to be a permanent feature of the ipod touch now? Could someone from Apple please clarify if you are trying to fix this, or is this just the way it is now?

If you (Apple) aren't going fix it, I hope you make it known in your marketing for the ipod touch that you can't listen to your songs immediately. If you don't disclose this, I sure hope the Zune touch people make a big deal out of it when promoting their mp3 player. I woudn't have bought an ipod touch if I had known I had to wait 2-10 minutes to listen to a song.

Internet Problems ...

I had the iPod touch 2nd gen for 4 months and decided to download the new software update (3.1.1) and have had problems since downloading the update with connecting to the internet.

My iPod lists my network in the internet settings and says that I am connected, but when I go on safari, youtube, or apps that need a Wi-Fi connection they do not work. Safari says can't connect invalid arguement and the others just don't load.
I tried my iPod at college to see if I had problems with my network but the same thing happened at college.

I rang apple and they gave me 4 steps to try
1. Reset network settings.
2. Enter I.P address manually on static mode.
3. Reset network settings with router off
4. Restore iPod to factory settings.

None of these have worked.

I have been given a replacement iPod but the same problem has occured.

Does anybody know what could be wrong?

Speedtest.net on iPod Touch 3rd Gen ...

Hello all

When I test the Network Speed, using the Speedtest.net App, on my 3rd Gen iPod Touch I get a Ping of over 300ms and a Download Speed of approximately 0.5Mbps.

When I then test on my two Laptops on Speedtest.net using the same Server I get a Ping of 40ms and a Download Speed of 6.30Mbps.

The Router and Modem both have the latest Firmware.

I have tried resetting the Wireless Settings on the iPod Touch without any change.

I have also reset the iPod touch completely and started from scratch, again without any improvement.

The iPod Touch was purchased in September supplied with 3.1 which I then updated to 3.11 then subsequently to 3.12.

Any ideas as to why the Network Speed of the iPod Touch is so much slower than the other computers that I own?

3.1.2 failure ...

Just received a new Touch 32GB. After charging it seemed fine - configured wi-fi and gmail. BUT then after updating I-tunes to 9 and registering, the update to 3.1.2 ran and produced a failure message. Attempts to restore have all resulted in failure. Reboot (off home)does not solve problem. Restarting the computer and restarting I-Tunes 9 results in message that restore is needed, but that always fails - mostly with error message 1604. Tried with firewall turned off - result same. Computer does not see that Touch is plugged in, but Touch does wake up to I-tunes plus USB cable screen when it is plugged in.

Restoring video and music from iTouch ...

Hoping that somebody can help. I need to be able to restore some of the video and music files from my iTouch back to the iTunes library on my PC.

After some recent HD problems some of the music and video files on my PC got currupted. And before you ask, yes I do do backups. Problem is the copies of the files in the backup are the same as those corrupted ones.. The only valid copies of these files are on my iTouch.

I assume that I can't just simply synch the iTouch as that will simply remove the valid versions.

Any suggestions?

I saw a lot of the posts talk about WiFi.

Well here's one more. I spent 1 year using a Microsoft Zune (poor me, I know :P) and just bought my first ever ipod Touch with birthday money (b-day was yesterday (the 16th) ) and I'm trying to get it connected to the WiFi so I can use the apps...and, it won't connect. It recognizes that there is a wifi connection in the house, and there is a WiFi Address in the 'About' section of the General Settings, but there's nothing in the DHCP, BootIP, or Static and I can't figure out why.

Is there something wrong with the touch? Or is it my router? I feel bad for posting this, but I couldn't find a post that helped me.

With 3.0, if you double-clicked the home button, the iPod controls would pop up. But now with 3.1, if you're in an app and you double-click the button, sometimes it will exit out of the app and bring up the music screen. This is really annoying; is there any way to change it back? If not, Apple, please give us the choice of which mode to use!

Also, since upgrading to 3.1, my iPod touch 2g seems somewhat slower, it will lag when bringing up the iPod controls, loading apps, etc. Is anybody else experiencing this, and do you have any suggestions for a fix? Apple... this should be fixed!

Finally, my sleep/wake button appears to have receded into the iPod somewhat; it seems like it doesn't stick out as much, and I definitely have to push it much harder in order to get it to activate -- sometimes I'll have to try 4 or 5 times to get it to work. Has this happened to anybody else, and is there any fix?

I have three smart playlists on my ipod touch--one is the 10,000 songs I've played the most. The second is a subset--the 1,000 songs I've played the most. The third is my Top 100. I created the latter two playlists because sometimes I'm only in the mood for my favorite songs.

I have selected all three playlists to appear on my ipod touch. However, the Top 1,000 and Top 100 playlists bear no resemblance to the ones in iTunes. They seem to only contain completely random songs selected from the 10,000 songs on my iPod touch.

Hi,

When you choose to play an album with voice control, it seems to shuffle it by default. Is there a way to get it to play in order just using the voice thing (i.e. Turn shuffle off)?

I've tried saying things like 'no shuffle' 'shuffle off' but I just ending up shuffling off myself and looking stupid. I don't want to shuffle whole albums, I want to listen to them as they were recorded!

iPod Touch Scrolling Problem ...

I've got an iPod Touch 2G, running the 3.1.1 firmware. Ever since I updated the podcast list scrolls very choppily if I flick through it. So choppily that's it's challenging getting it to where I want to be. Same problem on the video list, once I get down to podcasts. Scrolling the album list (the longest list I have) is mostly smooth, but it seems to hiccup a little if I flick super-fast. Any ideas what the problem could be? I've tried resets and a restore from backup, but the problem persists.

Help with Photo Sync ...

I've been trying to find an answer in previous posts but so far nothing. Hopefully someone here can help me. The size of my Pictures folder on my PC is 601 MB. After syncing the folder with my iPod Touch, iTunes shows that my photos are taking up 3.32 GB. Why the discrepancy? It seams ridiculous that it takes up that much space. Does this happen to anyone else and if so how come?

Album artwork for purchased albums ...

I have the 2nd Generation iPod Touch and am having trouble with my album artwork. I will play an artist on my iTunes on my computer and the artwork will be correct. I play the same song on my iPod Touch and the artwork displayed is that of a different album in my library. And it is only for albums purchased using an older computer I no longer use. I can't figure it out. I've erased all my album artwork. Downloaded all the artwork again and would get the same result. I even restored the iPod twice only to have the same problem with the same purchased albums. I upgraded to 3.0 software, but still the same problem. I'm out of ideas. Please help.

It was working fine earlier today. Had half battery, and then a couple hours later went to use it and it wouldn't light up. i tried holding the power button, still wouldn't come on. I've plugged it into the computer, and nothing happened. the computer and itunes wouldn't read it, and it still hasn't turned on. it's been over an hour.

Ugh, okay, so I bought an iPod Touch (2G) off ebay (Yeah yeah, I know) I was told there were some problems with it (other than a failed jailbrake.) Basically the iPod boots up into recovery mode (DFU doesn't seem to work...) Okay fine, iTunes sees the ipod and tells me to recover it, so I do that, but all it does is give me a 1611 error every time.

Ugh... Any suggestions? (Even if I gotta send it in for a nominal fee, even to get it repaired/exchanged?)

This problem has always happened to me. But yesterday I had enough
It was one of those peaceful days. I decided to stay in my room
To watch x-men evolution on my iPod (how cool is that) but anyway
Not for long. I got to watch all the way up to season 1 episode 7
After that episodes 8,9,10,11 and 13 were not working
I was using YouTube through safari and usually
A play button is over each video. You push play and
There it is. But this time the play button had a slash in the middle
Like those no smoking symbols. So I go to the YouTube app and
It's technically the same problem "this video cannot be played"

So I skipped most of season 1 and went to season 2 (on safari)
Same **** problem the play symbol with a slash.

Nothing worked I closed out safari and tried
Playing these videos later and they still didn't work
And also this is not the only pro len with me 2nd gen
iPod touch. Sometimes it takes a video forever to load or it just won't load. And also when the video is streaming for
SoMe reason it stops streaming.

Also I know it's not a format or encode problem because
I've had this problem with other videos that I used to watch all the time

Moving TV shows from Videos to TV Shows ...

I have loaded the first season of Psych to iTunes/iPod Touch. All episodes are showing up as individual "movies". I have other TV shows that show up underneath the category Movies as TV Shows. There is a single folder with the name of the show and then the episodes are in that folder. Is there a way I can create the same hierarchy with the episodes of Psych? I don't mind deleting them from the iPod and then resynching after moving them to a different folder on my PC if that is what I need to do, but I need to know what folder to place them in before moving them back to the iPod.

My computer was being used and I wanted to restore my iPod touch 2G, so I went into the Settings and did the clear everything off the iPod and now it's been at the Apple logo with the white loading ring for half an hour. It's just frozen there. I tried to put it into DFU mode, but my computer finds it as an unknown hardware and not Apple Recovery Device. I just decided to upgrade to 3.0 and I knew something was going to happen, but I did it anyway. Do I wait longer? I doubt it's fryed, but I don't know. Thanks for any help.

Smart Playlists Won't Sync Correctly ...

So I updated my iPod touch to the newest software update, updated my iTunes to the latest update. Everything works great except that my songs in the smart playlists won't alphabetized when I sync them. They're alphabetized on the computer, but not on the iPod. Also, the recently added and recently played playlists don't match the playlists on the computer. Anyone have a solution? I've tryed to sync multiple times today and it's just not working.

I just bought an ipod touch 2.5 gen (8gb) last week and have been very pleased with it.
the only problem i have with it is battery life. it says on the tech specs that it plays 30hrs of music and 6hrs of video time. I know that nots exactly right so since its new my guess was that when its fully charged it will play at least 4hrs of video.

i didn't have time to test out the battery life for the video but i was playing a game (ancient war) on my touch (with speaker sound and about 30% brightness). The battery died in like 1hr and 50 minutes or so. is that normal? does the battery only last liek 2 hours when you play games with sound?

3.1.1 Update - Photos cannot sync error ...

I have not had this issue before. I currently have 429mb free on my Ipod Touch 32gb. This total, 429mb, is with my pictures synced. My current photos folder is 723mb which transfers to 345.7mb to the Ipod. It seems that most of the time when I remove/connect my Ipod Touch, I get an error that says it can not sync my photos because there is not enough room. So my photos are removed from my Ipod. After that I will have 776mb free. I try to sync again and it fails. Third time is evidenlty a charm because it will sync the photos. As I said before the update it has never happened.

I just downloaded an album off of the Internet and put it on my iPod but now when I bring a song up off the album to listen to it, if I tap the screen to display the play time, repeat, shuffle, etc the screen becomes gray. Also, if I go to a different song and then go back and click on one of the album songs it says "loading lyrics". What is this? Thanks!

64GB iPod Touch (late 2009) and TV Shows ...

I just upgraded from a 5th Gen iPod to the touch. I have 8 seasons of my favorite TV Show which is in perfect order on my old 5th Gen. iPod. The new touch has them all out of order with no way to reorder them so they can be watched in sequence. I am frustrated with this after spending 1/2 of what a laptop would have cost. I've already sent feedback but thought I'd whine here as well. I even made a playlist for each season but there is no way to access it from the touch like I can on my old iPod. I love my new iPod but for ordering TV Shows my old one is better. I was so looking forward to watching them on this new screen and delegating the old one to my night stand as a docked clock radio.

How many passwords for various networks ...

In my town there seems to be a reluctance to be a Hotspot for the Dominant ISP/Telcom.
I would have thought it a no-brainer in the bums on seats campaign.
To add to the problem not all of the kiosks nominated as such are giving out the signal, vandalism, I suppose.
Various places of recreation seem quite happy to give out their password for their own regular WIFi setup.
Seems a bit foolish to me, ? possible security/legal implications, but if that's what one has to do to have a quick surf while having a cold one, fair enough.
Is there a limit to the number of networks that one can setup with their passwords on the iPod?
Any possible disadvantages other than exacerbations of paranoia?
I ran a search on this particular "How many" so I don't think I'm duplicating anything.

Battery indicator discrepancy ...

I use a wall charger to charge my iPod touch. I get a discrepancy between two battery indicators, even after letting the iPod charge all night.

If I turn on the iPod while the charger is still plugged in, the initial screen shows a big battery icon which is only about half green even after at least 8 hours of charging. But if I start navigating into the menus and screens, the tiny battery indicator in the upper right shows a full charge.

Is this normal?

I bought my iPod Touch 2nd generation last April of this year, 2009 and today I have encountered the biggest problem ever on my iPod. It's DEAD! This morning, i was playing a game and it ran out of battery so i charged it then i fell asleep for a couple of hours. When i woke up, assuming the battery was already full, I unplugged it and switched it on and and it gave me a blank screen, just plain white. So i waited because i thought it was normal. 15 minutes passed, it was still the same blank screen. And i pressed the power button again and nothing. it would not even switch off. It was just plain white screen. Then i connected it to my laptop so i could restore thinking it would help. I clicked the restore button on my iTunes version 9, then it AUTOMATICALLY updated my iPod software to 3.1.2 (since I bought the 3.1.1 Software Update already) and backed up my files. So there, it started restoring my iPod for a minute until a message flashed on my window that my iPod has malfunctioned and pressed the SEND MESSAGE button to Apple regarding the malfunctioned system of my device because it says it might have information that would help Apple improve the device or to solve the problem. After the message was sent, my iPod window in my iTunes closed and iPod power was turned off. I tried to switch it back on and it just wouldn't switch on. It's completely DEAD! I disconnected it from the USB and re-connected to see what happened. Windows (Vista) has detected that there's a device but the device does not have any Driver installed. So i updated the driver and it did and I still get a message flashing that the device is malfunctioned and it needs to be replaced. So now, I'm very disappointed! None of these 3.1.1 or 3.1.2 Software Updates are working properly! It just crashes the whole device! I tried getting help online for troubleshooting but it lead me to nothing! My iPod is totally DEAD after that software update of 3.1.2 and I don't understand why it automatically updated the software when I only clicked the restore button! Now, it doesn't even switches on anymore even if i press the power button for a long time, nothing... I believe that the warranty still applies for it since I just got it early this year and it's a whole technical thing. Can Apple fix this problem with my iPod Touch?!

Missing Library ...

This has happened to me twice now. After downloading content straight to my Ipod touch via A WiFi connection my library is gone. The first time it happened I downloaded some podcasts. And was listening to them and when I went to listen to my music it was gone. I checked in the "About" section of the general settings and it showed no songs or videos but the available capacity was showing that the content was still there. I tried to reset the touch but the songs and video still did not appear. I went ahead and connected my Ipod to my computer and after it synced the songs were back. I didn't associate this with downloading via WiFi until last night when I downloaded some songs and then when I went to listen to them they were the only two songs in the library. The content is not being erased it is just not visible.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

Is there a way to fix it?

ipod touch sounds worse than my old ...

There is a very noticeable difference in the sound quality of my old 2GB nano (the all black one), and my ipod touch. I should clarify, this mainly has to do with bass. The highs actually sound cleaner I would say. But, with both ipods set on the "rock" EQ setting, the nano sounds much more powerful. This is much much more noticeable when using my bose triport headphones. With the nano, they absolutely rock. With the ipod touch, nothing makes me realize I am using a $150 pair of headphones. Any ideas??
